SEEK Early Learners, PRE-K - 1ST
Joining us to blaze a trail with our little explorers is Lana McGee.
Lana is a graduate of Western Kentucky University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education, learning and behavioral K-12/Gen. Ed K-4 and a Master’s in Secondary Guidance Counseling.
She enjoyed her public school teaching career as an elementary and high school inclusive and collaborative teacher for a total of 7 years. She then decided to be a stay at home mom, but still substituted for a few years until moving to Texas in 2006. She was blessed with her children attending The Schoolhouse of Weatherford and eventually teaching Pre-K there for the past 12 years.
Just as Lana felt God placed the Schoolhouse in her life, she feels the same about SEEK, as she moves into this next chapter of her teaching career.
Lana is passionate about teaching this age because “littles” love to find their independence, discover their problem solving skills, and utilize their critical thinking skills. These are some of the building blocks of life, and can naturally lead to a love of learning and a successful academic career. Lana is especially excited about sharing her love of Jesus Christ with her students. Teaching children to lead a Christ-centered life is a privilege and a blessing. Lana has also taught Religious education classes at St. Stephen Catholic Church for the past 7 years.
She lives in Brock with her husband, Tom, and their 16 year old daughter, Ella. Their son, Easton, 20, is in Montana living his dream as a hunting/fishing guide. Lana comes from a large family all of whom reside in Kentucky, she loves to travel there as often as possible to see her many nieces and nephews. Lana loves to read, loves to crochet, and spending time with her family and friends.
SEEK Early Learners, PRE-K - 1ST
We are so excited to have Cynthia Penny leading our littlest learners this year.
This age is a passion for Cynthia, because she understands these impressionable years are what sets the foundation of education and the love of learning for many more to come. Cynthia is a graduate of East Texas State University at Texarkana with a certification to teach EC-8 grades. She taught kindergarten at Red Lick ISD in Texarkana for 26 years. She retired and moved to Weatherford to be near her newest grandbabies: Ava Grace 3, Dawson 2, and Ryder 5 months, who are the loves of her life. Her greatest enjoyment as a “hands on” Grandmother is being a part of their growth and development.
Cynthia’s experiences include teaching Vacation Bible School and providing private tutoring for children who benefit from one-on-one instruction. Since retiring she has continued her love of teaching by tutoring at Sylvan Learning Center in the center as well as online with Zoom and working with four-year-old children at preschool. She has also worked at Mary Martin
Elementary as a substitute teacher in Kindergarten.
A member of Willow Park Baptist Church, Cynthia
acknowledges that her faith in Jesus Christ is the foundation of her life. Children, the greatest of God’s gifts, are unique and their learning experience should be fun while engaging each one at their own level of growth.
Children are a gift from the Lord, they are a reward from Him.
SEEK Explorers, 2ND-4TH
Leading our middle grades this year is Danielle Sensabaugh.
Danielle is a graduate of University of North Texas and a certified educator for Early Childhood thru 6 th
grade, along with ESL. Danielle has been working in education since 2010. She has worked with preschool – elementary ages in many different environments
(tutoring, public, and private). She has also taught ESL in a virtual classroom to students across the world.
Danielle thinks a love of learning begins with great literature and hands-on discovery. She loves helping young learners discover new passions and interests
as they grow both cognitively and socially.
When Danielle is not teaching at SEEK, she is exploring state parks with her children, kayaking with her husband, and trying to keep her backyard garden
alive. She also loves to volunteer in her church’s nursery.
SEEK Scholars, 5TH - 7TH GRADE
Crystal Thom, our 5th - 7th grade teacher, is a graduate of UT Arlington with a Bachelors in Science in Interdisciplinary Studies Math and Science. She is certified grades 4-8 Math and Science. Crystal taught one year of 6th grade all inclusive and 7th grade science as well as Pre-AP Science for 9 years. During her public school career, Crystal served as grade level Science chair, Science department chair and served as curriculum advisor and developer. She was also honored as teacher of the year.
Crystal has a combined total of 18 years of teaching experience. For the last 8 years, Crystal has home- schooled her 3 children kindergarten through 11th grade.
Crystal believes in building strong foundational skills and a love for learning to encourage students to be lifelong learners. Her children and students alike are challenged to be independent, critical thinkers, who can work both independently and collaboratively as a group with other eager learners. Hands-on activities, skill building and positive reinforcement are used to support students in their natural learning processes.
Hayley Bassham, a founder of SEEK Collaborative, is blessed to be the bride of Blake, mom of Remington (10), Laramie (4), Piper (3), Nixon (1), and our sweet angel girl, Nolan. She has homeschooled for the past 3 years, after seeing the toll society was putting on her daughter. She is a former public educator with 3 years classroom experience teaching 7th grade ELA, Civics, and Dance. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Dance from Sam Houston State University and minored in Business. For the past 7 years, she has taught at a local dance studio and is looking forward to the upcoming dance season. Before that, she taught at her hometown studio from the age of 16 until she married at 21. She is an active member at church, teaching Sunday school in kids ministry and then leading small group with 5th/6th ministry. Hayley is a firm believer that we’re not meant to do life alone. Education is not exempt from that belief. She wants SEEK to be a place that partners with families to make homeschooling a viable option; to support parents and transform students. Chasing after Jesus- in all things- is her heart’s desire.
Psalms 115:14 May the Lord richly bless both you and your children.
Rachael Frazier, one of our SEEK Directors, is a mother of three and has homeschooled for the last 4 years. Prior to that, she was an educator, working in the public school system, for a University as a recruiter, and in an Educational non-profit. As an 8th grade ELA teacher, Rachael's students boasted the highest test grades in her district, and she was selected to serve on a team in Austin, helping to take some of the confusion out of standardized testing questions.
As 21st century learners, information is at our fingertips. Rachael believes if students love to learn, can work together with their peers and have problem solving and critical thinking skills, they will be most successful.
Rachael helped to create SEEK based on a hybrid homeschool model her children were part of in Abilene called Tiny School. SEEK has been a work in progress for the past two years, and she is excited to see how God will grow the program to impact other families in the Weatherford homeschool community.
